Who Dies in ‘On My Block’ Season 4?

Thankfully, Monse (played by Sierra Capri), Ruby (Jason Genao), Jamal (Brett Gray), Cesar (Diego Tinoco), and Jasmine (Jessica Marie Garcia) survived the final season of On My Block. However, the same cannot be said for some of their closest family members.

The two major deaths of the season, one in Episode 5 and the last in the season finale, ending the show on a bittersweet note.

Oscar ‘Spooky’ Diaz

Oscar (Julio Macias), Cesar’s brother was shot dead in Season 4, Episode 5.

His death was all the more heartbreaking since he had made a promise to get his life back on track and leave his gangster lifestyle behind. After meeting his girlfriend Isabel (Andrea Cortés) and becoming a father, his life had truly turned around.

Just moments before the trigger was pulled, Cesar forgave his older brother after years of fighting and decided to leave Freeridge behind with him to go to Portland.

Oscar had stepped outside of the house to call Isabel and tell him the good news about Cesar but things took a dark turn very quickly.

As he noticed a car approaching, he told Isabel he loved her before the camera cut back into the house where Cesar was standing. As the audience, we do not see Oscar’s death but we hear the gunshots fire and a car speeding away.

Cesar ran outside to find Oscar on the doorstep, gasping for air. In hard-to-watch scenes, Oscar died in Cesar’s arms.

Unfortunately, it was never revealed who killed Oscar but it was made very clear to Cesar, his attacker could have been anybody.

Ray (Ian Casselberry), a close friend explained to a devastated Cesar that Oscar was “in the life,",meaning he had enemies from rival gangs that would have wanted him dead for a very long time.

Fans have been sharing their fury and sadness about Oscar’s fate online.

One fan tweeted: “no bye because Oscar DID NOT deserve this ending. No one talk to me I’m in mourning… #OnMyBlock”

A second fan added: “Why did they kill Oscar he was supposed to get his happy ending #OnMyBlock”

Abuelita

In the bittersweet finale, there are some particularly heartbreaking moments. One of the most tear-jerking scenes is the moment Abuelita (Peggy Blow), Ruby’s grandmother dies from cancer.

Earlier in the series we learned, she was sick, but nobody could have foreseen her death coming. After all, Abuelita had been the main character since Season 1 of the show and no other original main character had been killed off in the show… until now.

There is some peace to be taken from Abuelita’s death—she got the farewell party she always wanted and deserved. Abuelita also got to see Ruby off to prom, something she had always wanted.

We learn later that Abuelita died peacefully but not without leaving her mark on everybody’s life.

She had one last gift to give to Ruby and his friends, the Rollerworld Money from Season 3. All of this time, the missing money had been right in front of them all along.

On My Block is streaming on Netflix now.
