MORE: How much will Al Michaels make in new ‘Thursday Night Football’ contract?

That said, the biggest move of this session of musical chairs has been Fox’s loss of its top NFL broadcast team. It was announced in early March that Joe Buck and Troy Aikman would be taking their talents to ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”

As such, Fox has had to seek replacements for both of them. It appears that the network has chosen one for Buck.

According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Kevin Burkhardt has been tapped to replace Buck.  Here’s what to know about Fox’s newest No. 1 play-by-play voice for the NFL.

Who is Kevin Burkhardt?

Burkhardt, 48, is a longtime sports broadcaster who has been with Fox for nearly a decade. He started at the network in 2013 and was a part of Fox’s No. 4 broadcast team for the NFL alongside John Lynch and Erin Andrews.

Eventually, Burkhardt climbed the depth chart at Fox. He did fill-in work for the network’s MLB programming in 2012 and 2013 before becoming the pre-game host in 2014. He has remained in that role ever since. He eventually became Fox’s No. 2 play-by-play voice for the NFL, behind only Buck, as well.

It’s worth noting that after news broke of Burkhardt’s promotion, Buck gave the move a glowing endorsement.

The New York Post reports that Burkhardt is expected to do play-by-play for football, but the network will seek out another play-by-play option for baseball. Joe Davis is the leading candidate to replace Buck on those baseball broadcasts.

Before Fox, Burkhardt spent time with SNY as the Mets’ sideline reporter and studio host. He also has worked at WGHT and WFAN, where he climbed the ladder from part-time work to become the studio’s main Jets reporter.

Who is Kevin Burkhardt’s broadcast partner?

Fox has not yet determined who Burkhardt’s partner will be. Greg Olsen, his partner in 2021, is expected to be a top candidate for the spot, per the Post.

However, the outlet also acknowledges that Olsen’s role is not set in stone. Fox has tried to swing big for a color analyst and even targeted Tom Brady before he unretired.

So, we’ll have to wait and see who will replace Aikman. But for now, it would seem that Olsen is in the driver’s seat.
